The sound on Letters from the Sun consists solely of a beautiful requinto made by Tom Fay and my voice.
These original songs are influenced by old plains music, Vaughn Williams, book metaphors from the Latin middle ages, reflections from the Erie Canal, Joan of Arc, people now dead, the smallest gesture from a stranger.
The traditional music, every third song or so, derives from eastern european folk music.
I would like to acknowledge the influence of Bob Alexander, Mick Walker and Mike Fierce. Always open, thoughtful, insightful and generous they have each helped define this bare work and helped me redefine myself.
